Re: I think this was a decent hire for Tennessee

I heard Kiffin contacted Boyd and told him that he was going in a different direction with the qb position.

I think you're right. Unless another SEC team flashes more mon-...er..."prestige & opportunity" in front of him, he'll be a Vol.

If he did, that's a dumb move on Kiffin's part, I think. Even if you've got designs on going to a more pro-style QB instead of a dual-threat type guy, try to keep the kid b/c Boyd's a really good athlete. Anyone remember how Kelly Washington was supposed to be a great QB at UT? Instead, he ended up being a pretty good WR, if memory serves me right. Boyd could do the same.

I would be surprised if he done that myself. I would think he would call him and let him know about his offensive philosophy and then say, kid, its yours if you win the job.

I've read that too, but I've not heard anything from any UT reporters or anything from UT. It was a report from Mike Farrell who's wrong more times than right, but he's saying it was something he'd heard from Boyd's dad. If it's true, it makes me a little nauseous unless he's got someone else he thinks he can pull.

Didn't know this about Carroll, but I hope Kiffin brings the same to Knoxville. Every starting position should be open for grabs every week IMO.

Agreed. Our "mutual friend on here" has a lot of negative to say about USC, but I repect them and Carroll is a big reason for that.

I think open competition keeps them hungry and not resting on their laurels. We had wrestle offs every week, and the winner got to wrestle the next match. Kept us working hard.

Competition makes everyone in every aspect of life better. Bill Gates is better because of Apple.
